Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Actions speak louder than words, is something I have always believed. Not that words are not important, but if the words and the actions don’t coincide and reveal the same thing, then the words seem pointless. Ashley White writes today’s devotional about how actions speak louder than words. I love her biblical insight and personal testimony about how actions speak louder than words to God too.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

“These people honor me with their lips,

but their hearts are far from me.”

Matthew 15:8

Jesus spoke to the religious leaders using words from Isaiah 29:13. The religious leaders spent the majority of their lives studying Moses’ Law, memorizing it, and abiding by it. When it came to personally knowing the Author of the Law, they failed. They knew about Him. They did not know Him. Their actions revealed what was in their hearts. They could not serve someone they did not know. Therefore they served the Law. Jesus taught them that true worship was not in words but in actions and attitudes of the heart.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words to God Too!

“Actions speak louder than words.” This is an old saying but how true it is! I remember a time when I kept telling the Lord how much I loved Him. My actions towards others were not reflecting that love. One Sunday morning during worship, the Lord spoke to my heart: “I am not interested in mere words alone….. I want your heart. Worship me in your marriage. Worship me in raising your children. Worship me with your actions!”

I was convicted and humbled that He loved me enough to discipline me. I realized that I spoke often of the Lord, but my heart was far from Him. I can tell my husband and children I love them ten times a day. Those are empty words if I never hug them, spend time with them, or give myself away to their needs.

In the same way, to worship (live for) My Savior I cannot just talk about Him or just memorize His word. I must seek Him. I must spend time in His presence and get to know Him. I must invite His Holy spirit to fill me, and live out what I speak out.

Why? Because even God believes our actions speak louder than words.

Are your lips and heart honoring the Lord? Or are you full of “empty words”?

Prayer: Precious Savior,

Thank You for loving me. I adore You. May the meditations of my heart and the words on my lips be pleasing to You. May I desire cultivating a relationship with You more than following rules. Equip me through the filling of Your Holy Spirit to live for You alone – not just in words but also in actions. Help me to have pleasing actions and those actions speak louder to You than words. I confess You are the Lord of my life and I need You Jesus. In the power and blood of Jesus Christ I pray – Amen
