Why do I say you are creation’s crown?
First, let’s define crown:
- A crown is a reward or mark of honor; a symbol of royalty. When talking about an element of creation, the crown is positioned as the peak.
Hold on to the definition and let’s talk about creation and the woman.
I have been studying about the women of Genesis for the past three months in preparation for teaching a local Bible study class. One thing I see is the significance of the woman in creation (Genesis 1:27-2:25).
Genesis 1:31 says, “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good…” Eighteen verses later God said, “It is not good. . .” (Genesis 2:18) What made God who saw nothing but good make such a statement? Woman, creation’s crown was missing. Creation was incomplete.
As a matter of fact, when God made the “It is not good” statement, everything was created and in existence at this point with the exception of woman. So God put Adam to sleep and formed a woman from His rib. God positioned her at the peak of creation, as creation’s crown.
Another element that stands out about woman’s creation is that God formed every other living creature that walked on earth, even man, from the dirt. But not the woman. She was special. Divinely intended to be unique and to finish God’s creation with her own unique beauty.
With one final holy brush stroke, the Lord completed His work of creation. As the psalmist David declared, “. . . marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well” (Psalm 139:14). Women were the finishing touch of creation, a marvelous work of the One True Holy God, the crowning and completion of creation.
Translation – We Are Creation’s Crown – Beautiful And Valuable.
God wanted to reward man with the perfect companion, a helper comparable to him. So, God gave man a crown, a reward and mark of honor because of man’s own intrinsic value to God.
An excellent wife is the crown of her husband.
Ironically, we so often struggle to see our beauty, value, and uniqueness divinely built into our DNA as women. But, can you imagine a world without women? A world of men and men only. I’m not knocking men! Men are amazing, but the world would be so super INCOMPLETE if men were the only human beings on the planet.
I have struggled many times with my own self-worth, thinking I wasn’t pretty enough, smart enough, talented enough… you name it and I did not have enough of it. Ministering to women for the past eighteen years, positions me to see very clearly that I am not alone. In fact, as I wrote in my blog post, The Value Question: Do I Really Matter? I have from too many women struggling with this same issue.
Where does that come from?
Our spiritual enemy wants women to feel like we are not beautiful, that we are not enough, and that we lack value, in spite of the fact that is completely contrary to God’s word.
From Genesis to Revelation, women left their mark. God used women in everyday circumstances:
- Eve mother of all living… (Genesis 3:20)
- Sarah miraculous mother of the promised son, Isaac and mother of nations. (Genesis 21:3 and 17:16)
- Queen Esther saved her people (Esther 8)
- Deborah, prophetess and judge over the nation of Israel (Judges 4:4)
- Mary, Mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:18-25 and many more)
- Martha, loved by Jesus and served Jesus (John 11:5; 12:2).
- A Samaritan woman led the men of her city to Jesus (John 4:28, 39)
- So many more, but you get the picture!
Today is no different. God values women. And God values you.
Dear Woman of God, whether young or old, you are God’s marvelous handiwork. Live today knowing God chose you to be His intentional finishing touch, not an addition because things did not work out like He thought. He planned you with value and beauty and divine purpose!
