Many women have said to me, “I don’t understand the Bible” and have given up trying to understand what God’s word says. I have been there as well, but I have found the truth of Isaiah 55:11 to be very real in my own life. If we will read and not give up, understanding will come because the work and power of His word is not dependant upon our understanding. The work and power of God’s word is dependant upon the work and power of His word.
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void,
but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Read Luke 11:1-14
Have you ever said:
“I’m trying. I’m reading my Bible and praying, but it doesn’t seem like it matters. I don’t understand anything.”
If you can relate, I want you to know I am proud of you for wrestling with the things of faith and pursing God as you know to. DO NOT GIVE UP! Sometimes faith is hard, especially when we are such by sight people. God calls us to believe without seeing and blesses us when we do. There is a faith building principle going on when we seek God and keep pursing Him, when we really feel like it is not working. Your faith is being built as you do the hard work of pursing Him through prayer and His word.
This is what God promises:
- “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season, we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9)
- King David said “I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” (Psalm 27:13)
In other words, DO NOT GIVE UP!
Two passages in Luke will help in our faith walk. In Luke 11:1-14 Jesus teaches His disciples to pray and follows that with a story about a friend who keeps coming to them at midnight asking for bread. Because of persistence, they give him what he needs.
Then Jesus says, “So I say to you.”
My translation: Jesus is saying based on all that I just taught you.
What does Jesus follow that with? “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
So Dear One, Do Not Give Up!
When you don’t know what to do, trust in the truth and power of His word. When you don’t feel like your faith matters or is working, “DON’T GIVE UP!!!” He will be faithful to give you what we need. Another passage to study is Luke 18:1-8. Use these passages in your daily study and pray that God will give you a real understanding of them. Use them as prayers. Our prayers + His word = POWER!
Leaving you with a prayer for persistent faith:
Precious Heavenly Daddy, Help me to not grow weary while doing good that I may reap in due season! Give me a persistent faith that believes that I will see Your goodness in the land of the living. I want to trust in the truth and power of Your word. Help me to live that out. I love You! In Jesus Name. Amen.
