Anyone who knows me well knows I treasure God’s Word! I believe that God’s word works and has an affect on any person who reads it and believes it. We have the greatest treasure at our fingertips, yet this treasure is often overlooked. We often take for granted and overlook what is easily available and accessible, and God’s Word is as available and accessible as it has ever been. We can hear from God any day, any time, for any reason, by simply choosing to open up a Bible and spend some time reading His word.
Most of us have more than one Bible in our homes, but even if we don’t, we have smart phones or access to a computer. Electronic Bibles and Bible Apps can be downloaded in just a matter of seconds.
Bible Apps and Online Resources
YouVersion is a Bible App I like to use. Also, check out my favorite Bible Resources including my favorite online Bibles and Bible study tools. This is a downloadable form you can save to your computer for quick reference.
My office library has 2 shelves dedicated to Bibles and a couple extra Bibles are always laying around my house. At last count, I had 25 Bibles, not including any electronic options. I love the Bible because I love how God’s word works. I love God’s word because His word changed my life, my perspective, my heart, my thoughts, my family, and even my every day. I love His word because God’s Word works!
The Bible tells us that God’s word is living and powerful.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12) Living means to live, breathe, be among the living (not lifeless, not dead). Isaiah 40:8 tells us that the word of God stands forever and three gospels record Jesus saying:
Heaven and Earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33
Not only is God’s word living, but His word lives eternally. In other words, when we read the Bible, we are not reading dead words on a page, but words that are full of life.
God’s Word is God Breathed
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. The words, “inspiration of God” in 2 Timothy 3:16 actually means God breathed.
Not only is God’s word, Scripture, and/or the Bible living, but it is powerful. The word powerful in Hebrews 4:12 in the original Greek language is transliterated as energes. And yes, you see it right. Powerful refers to energy. Energy in Physics is the capacity for work or vigorous activity. It is the capacity of a physical system to do work. Another way to say this is God’s Word works.
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, but water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
God’s Word Works in Our Physical World
The word of God was, is, and always will be intended to work in our PHYSICAL world. His word is energy and when that energy is applied, it accomplishes and prospers. God gave His word for us to apply in our life that it can work for us accomplishing and prospering in our life. How do we apply that energy in our physical world? 1 John 5:4 tells us.
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.
And this is the victory that has overcome the world–our FAITH.
1 John 5:4
What does it all boil down to? We apply God’s word to our life and our situations by our faith. So the question is, Do we believe that the word of God is that powerful, that it is completely life, that it is full of energy, engaged in work in our physical world on the behalf of the one who believes and therefore speaks?
